Life in Granite City

granite.jpg

About a month ago, I was happy to be interviewed by Elia Powers, a reporter for the St. Louis Beacon, who was writing an article on life in Granite City after the Granite City Steel layoffs. The article became a series, and additions to the series have been posted day-by-day for the last couple of weeks.

The series is called Uneasy Street: Granite City. Granted, I'm partial, but I personally think it's award-worthy. Every article has been fascinating and has revealed a different aspect of life in Granite. And every article lives up to the Beacon's motto of "News that matters."
The Beacon has taken a topic (Granite City) that journalists from the NY Times and Wall Street Journal have covered with a scratch of the surface, and have instead dug in and eaten, breathed, and walked around in our city to explore it and uncover the details.
The article about buying homes and living here was posted this afternoon and includes me and two other fellow Holy Family parishioners.
It's entitled Lured by affordable housing, young people discover they can go back home again
Check it out.
