Columbus’s Boats in Grafton

boats.png

From the BND: "People along the Grafton riverfront were doing double takes on Tuesday as replicas of two ships in the 1492 fleet of Christopher Columbus sailed past barges and motorboats on the Illinois River."
The Nina and the Pinta are docked at The Loading Dock in Grafton through the weekend. The cool thing is: Suzanne helped facilitate this whole thing. The boats were originally due to dock at the Alton Marina, but the U.S. Corps of Engineers has the water level so low at Alton that a fish can barely swim along the river bottom, so adjustments had to be made.
"The Nina and Pinta are owned by the nonprofit Columbus Foundation, based in the British Virgin Islands. They'll be docked next to the Loading Dock Bar and Grill in Grafton and open for self-guided tours today through Sunday."
The Loading Dock plans Columbus-themed drink specials and their usual great menu.
Big win for Grafton on a beautiful weekend of weather and fall colors along the bluffs.
