Fun Choices for Next Weekend…
Tweet ThisWow, there's some cool stuff to choose from next weekend with the kids. We already have a few things lined up, so it's going to be tough to experience all of the excitement the area has to offer, but here are a few things on our short list. You might want to think about adding them to yours too...
Lincoln Place Heritage Festival
Granite City
Granite City
From the Suburban Journals: "Succeeding waves of immigrants settled in what is now the Lincoln Place neighborhood of Granite City, leaving traces of their heritage throughout the Metro East. On Saturday, Sept. 19 the descendants of many of those immigrants will come back for the seventh annual Lincoln Place Heritage Association Festival."
The Lincoln Place Heritage Association Festival runs next Saturday (September 19) from 11 AM to 6 PM at the Lincoln Place Community Center (just a short bike ride away) at 822 Niedringhaus Ave.
Family fun will include ethnic foods, entertainment, and wares.
2009 Scott Air Force Base Air Show
Scott Air Force Base
Last year, I took the boys to the air show (I don't remember what Suzanne was doing) and they loved it. Even though I was wrestling Thomas to get him to keep holding my hand, while pushing Matthew in a stroller and holding an umbrella over all of us due to the rainfall, I had a blast as well.
I remember my mom and dad taking me to this frequently as a kid, so it was very cool to take my own boys. I hope to be able to take them again this year, if time allows this weekend.
Full details are available on the Air Show's website.
The Great Godfrey Maze
Godfrey, IL
At some point this fall, we're going to get the boys to Godfrey for the Great Godfrey Maze - 2 mazes cut out of 7 acres of corn in Glazebrook Park.
The theme of this year's design is "A-Maze-ing Quest", a renaissance/knighthood theme... right up the boys' imaginations' alley.
I remember running around the straw maze at Relleke Farm as a boy, and our boys love that too... but 7 acres of maze in maize? That's cool!
