When we last shared a #HomeBuildingHalbrooks blog post, the crews were just wrapping up basement work in weeks 2-3. While we’ve been occasionally chronicling the work on our Facebook and Instagram accounts, we haven’t posted another update here. So here goes… fast forward to week 19 and a quick tour of the house!
First things first… after weeks of waiting (and way-too-cold temperatures), the brick supplies for the front of the house showed up today. Hopefully, the brick work can be done in the next few days before the temperatures turn cold again.
Here’s a view of the front of the house from a couple of weeks ago as the siding work was being wrapped up:
The the last few weeks, all of the rough mechanical (electric, plumbing, HVAC) has been installed and inspected. The drywall was all installed & inspected last week, and the supplies for taping, mudding, and priming all showed up today.
Here’s a view as you turn from the entry hall into the sitting area and dining room, looking from the front of the house back towards the back. Through the doorway at the end, you’ll eventually see part of the kitchen, and the kitchen island.
Here’s a view back the other way towards the front of the house. At the far end will be a little sitting area and our music corner with the piano.
As you pass through the walkway from the dining room into the kitchen and turn left, this is the view into our great room / family room. The windows to the right look out at the back yard and nature preserve. The other walkway to the left in the foreground walks past a powder room into the main entry foyer and staircase. The first door to the left leads to a pass-through room that’ll be a technology hub (printer, scanner, office supply storage) and a built-in countertop desk, that then leads into Michael’s office at the front of the house. The second door on the left leads into the mud room / laundry room and then into the garage. Behind the fireplace and bookcase/tv wall is the master suite.
This is the view from the opposite corner of the great room, in the corner by the built-in bookcases & fireplace. It looks back toward a door to the back patio, the kitchen and built-in pantry, and the walkway to the dining room, doorway to the basement, and the walkway to the entry foyer.
And here’s another view from the opposite corner, as though you’re entering through the garage and mud/laundry room.
Finally, this is a tough view to get because it’s so tall and deep, but this is a view up from the french doors to Michael’s office, up through the entry foyer and up the stairs to the boys’ rooms and bathroom. The wall framing will be replaced by a railing up the stairs and a balcony at the top of the stairs.
We’re excited and looking forward to the next few weeks of watching all of the interior finish work take shape, and will try to post more updates from here on out!
